Summer Grilling Safety Tips

Grilling Safety Tips -

Well it is that time of the year again, the smell of freshly cut grass, longer days, vacation plans and yes grilling out.  Hamburgers, hot dogs, barbeque chicken and all the fixing's make for a great summer.  With that being said, I thought it might be a good idea to review some safety grilling tips.

1. If you are using a gas grill make sure you open the top before turning on the gas and pressing the ignite button on the grill.

2. Make sure your grill is pulled away from the house.  We have seen many a claim from a grill being too close to a home causing the siding to melt or even a fire.

3. Make sure you follow your grills instruction to check for gas leaks.  You should check this every year.

4. Once you are finished grilling, make sure you turn off the gas.

5. If you are using a charcoal grill,  use about 2 or 3  inches of charcoal on the base of the grill.

6. If you charcoal is not already covered with lighter fluid,  then put a small amount of lighter fluid over the briquettes and wait a few minutes before lighting the fire.

7. Do NOT put lighter fluid or gasoline on a fire, the fire could follow the stream of lighter fluid back to the container and cause and explosion.

8.  When removing the charcoal, make sure the ashes are cold sometimes this can take up to 48 hours.  Also, it is a good idea to pour water over the coals and place them in foil or non-combustible container to prevent a fire.

These are just a few good safety tips for your grilling season, we hope your summer is a safe one.
